The Technology Transfer Voucher was announced by the Government as part of a package of actions to support and increase business-led research and development (R&D) under the 2010 Budget.

The aim of the Technology Transfer Voucher is to increase the transfer of technology and knowledge between research organisations and businesses, by supporting better linkages between the two.

Vouchers will provide 50 per cent funding towards your research and development (R&D) project to enable businesses to access research services and expertise from accredited R&D partners.

In 2010/2011 $5m is available to support businesses with vouchers.

The voucher will be introduced in phases. The first phase started on 1 November 2010 and will run until 30 June 2011. During this period, the focus will be on bringing together businesses and accredited R&D partners active in the high value manufacturing and services sector.

Mid-2011, we will be evaluating the programme and, subject to the success of the first phase, accredit other research organisations and open access to other sectors.

During the first phase, the following accredited R&D partners will be providing research and development services and expertise to businesses via the voucher programme:

  • Auckland University of Technology
  • Industrial Research Limited
  • University of Auckland
  • University of Canterbury
  • University of Otago
  • Wellington Institute of Technology.
