Ethical principals for evaluations

We maintain strict ethical principles for those involved in evaluations.

Evaluation participants

Anyone taking part in an evaluation conducted by or on behalf of the Foundation is informed about the purpose and intent of the evaluation.

They are also told about:

  • the terms of reference for the evaluation
  • the process for obtaining participant sign-off, particularly for evaluation reports
  • what will happen with the results.

Evaluators

Foundation evaluators (including external evaluators) work within our terms of reference.

They use evaluation instruments developed for each evaluation, including peer-review processes.

In addition, our evaluators follow general ethical principles for conducting evaluations:

  • objectivity
  • confidentiality
  • integrity
  • transparency.

They will not breach the terms of confidentiality for any evaluation, nor disclose commercially sensitive information to unauthorised persons.

Principles for the Foundation

Our staff ensure that the information obtained from evaluation participants is used only for the purposes for which it was collected.

All Foundation evaluation practice complies with the relevant provisions of the Foundation for Research, Science and Technology Act, Official Information Act, Statistics Act, Privacy Act, Bill of Rights, and other pertinent legislation.

Reviewing

Our evaluation performance is peer-reviewed against these principles.
