TechNZ is the Foundation![[definition]](/sites/all/themes/frsttheme/images/glossary-icon.png "The Foundation for Research, Science and Technology is a Crown entity governed by a Board appointed by the Minister of Research, Science and Technology.
We were established under the Foundation for Research, Science and Technology Act 1990. Under the Act the Foundation’s principle purposes are: to allocate funds for the production of outputs relating to public good science and technology; to allocate funds pursuant to ministerial schemes; and to provide independent policy advice to the Minister of Research, Science and Technology on matters related to research, science and technology, including advice on national priorities for those matters.

for Research, Science and Technology’s business investment programme and is designed to support companies and people undertaking research and development projects that result in new products, processes or services.
To date, TechNZ investments of $450 million have helped out around 4,500 New Zealand businesses. After 10 years of operation it was time to revamp TechNZ. As part of the redevelopment we surveyed New Zealand businesses, who told us they wanted a flexible simple support system with less jargon and less paperwork. Consequently, we’ve simplified TechNZ from 12 support schemes into one single programme and we’ll be rolling out further improvements over the next 12 months.
We have established TechNZ partners - a network of trusted regional advisors located throughout the country who help companies successfully develop and commercialise their new product.
