In 2006/07 the Foundation? prioritised its investments based on key outcome areas. We looked to support the Government’s economic transformation agenda, help build a sustainable future and contribute to research and development that would generate new knowledge and develop highly-skilled people.
The focus on both long and short term outcomes has delivered some key results and this publication is designed to give you a snapshot of those, as well as showcase the innovative work going on in New Zealand’s research and development sector. Investment in climate science, in particular, reflects the significant level of societal and Governmental concern with this issue. The projects we have supported will produce knowledge not only to understand the nature of climate change, but also to respond to and mitigate the effects.
The outcomes discussed in this document are as a result of knowledge gained during many years of fundamental research, and this knowledge is now being applied through successful commercialisation and partnerships with industry. This work is pivotal to ensuring research, science and technology is an integral part of the innovation system.
