The report summarises the main findings for 75 percent of companies with completed TBG? contracts over $50,000 that reached 18 months milestones post-contract during 2006 and 2007.

Companies:

Total turnover at the 18 month post-contract milestone was $1.221 billion (for 51 companies).

Firms average turnover increased by 29% since the beginning of the TBG contracts.

One in five companies reported an increase of over 200% in turnover.

Total export revenues by the firms 18 months post-contract were $424 million or 35 percent of turnover.

One in seven firms reported an increase in of over 200 percent in export revenues.

The average research and development expenditure increased by 37%.

One in three firms reported over $1 million in research and development expenditure at the 18 months milestone.

Outcomes:

One hundred and twenty-seven new or improved products, processes or services resulted from 45 TBG projects.

New and improved products were reported to have been launched in New Zealand and overseas markets.

One hundred and thirty two new intellecutal property items were generated from TBG products, but one in four firms did not report any intellectual property.

There were thirty-four provisional patent applications resulting from TBG projects.

Current annual revenue from the technology developed was estimated at $4.4 million per million dollars invested in TBG grants, and over 70% of the revenue was reported from exports.
