Our investment framework
Selecting and managing our investments

Like other public funding agencies or investors, we typically receive more proposals for investment than we can support.

We follow a process to make sure we select the research that will make the greatest difference to New Zealand and ensure our decisions are fair.

Assessment process for public good, science and technology

After we receive an application, this is the process we generally follow:

  • we check the eligibility of the application
  • advisory group members independently score it against our four assessment criteria
  • the advisory group meets to determine final scores for each criteria, and prepare a ranked list of all the applications being considered
  • we apply balance factors to the ranked list. This helps ensure we select a good spread of research topics that match our investment strategies
  • The Foundation? Board of Directors approve final investment decisions or delegate the authority.

Assessment process for business research and revelopment (Technology New Zealand)

Technology New Zealand proposals are assessed in an on-demand process. The process is similar to the process for public good science and technology applications. Individual Proposals are scored against assessment criteria by expert reviewers (or by advisory groups for more significant proposals).
