Scheme Overview
International Investments Opportunities Fund (IIOF)

The research this scheme supports

This portfolio supports research that offers significant benefit in terms of international science collaborations, capability building or economic benefit to New Zealand, with good prospects of capturing these benefits.

The types of research supported include basic-targeted, applied and experimental research.

What this scheme aims to do

This is an on-demand? investment fund which aims to capture opportunities which are time-bound and fall outside the application dates for our standard public good portfolio investment rounds.

Who can apply for this funding?

Research organisations and universities who have a genuine opportunity to be a part of an international research collaboration.

The researcher needs to be part of a leading national team and be able to source funding internationally that at least matches the funding they are requesting from the Foundation?.

Meeting Scheme Objectives

We are currently investing in two objectives of the International Investment Opportunities Fund, each with its own Request for Proposals.

  1. Building international research collaborations
Providing funding to enable New Zealand researchers to respond to opportunities for international collaboration that arise out-of-cycle.
  2. Developing international funding partnerships
Co-investing with international partners in research programmes of joint interest that involve researchers based in New Zealand and Japan.
