Scheme overview
PreSeed Accelerator Fund

What this research supports

The PreSeed? Accelerator Fund (PreSeed) supports public-sector and not-for-profit private sector research providers to get early-stage technology commercialisation activities investor ready.

It bridges the gap between generating knowledge and producing prototypes (or similar developments) so that the technology prospects are progressed towards investor readiness.

Types of investments

We make devolved and non-devolved PreSeed investments.

For devolved investments, we fund research organisations and they decide which commercialisation projects to undertake.

For non-devolved investments, we invest in a project agreed with a research organisation for developing research findings.

What it aims to do

PreSeed investment aims to maximise the commercial benefits to New Zealand from publicly-funded research in science and technology.

It also seeks to:

  • raise public sector research organisations’ commercial capabilities and skills
  • improve the links between public sector research organisations and potential private sector partners, in New Zealand and offshore.

Who can apply

Only public sector or not-for-profit private sector research organisations may apply for PreSeed investment.

Researchers who wish to commercialise findings from Research for Industry (RFI?) and New Economy Research Fund (NERF?) research contracts are eligible.

Researchers cannot apply for both Preseed and Technology for Business Growth (TBG?) funding.
