The SPS? portfolio supports research related to sustainable production across New Zealand’s primary sectors.
The sectors targeted for investment from this portfolio are New Zealand’s land and sea-based biological production systems.
This portfolio supports basic-targeted, applied and experimental development research.
Investments in this area aim to support New Zealand’s efforts to make primary production economically, environmentally and socially sustainable.
This is achieved by supporting research that improves the sustainability of primary production systems.
Research organisations, including universities, crown research institutes and private organisations doing research for the wider benefit of New Zealand.
Each portfolio has overarching goals, called target outcomes. Themes may support each target outcome. All of these are detailed in the portfolio investment strategy.
The investment signal for each investment process will focus on some or all of these target outcomes and themes.

(Carbon monitoring research is specifically excluded.) |

| SPS2 - biosecurity threats to production and markets stopped at border, eliminated or managed post border Unwanted, harmful and potentially harmful organisms are either prevented from crossing New Zealand's border, detected and eradicated before establishing self-sustaining populations, or eradicated or managed so that New Zealand's productive sectors are not adversely affected. |
2.1 Pre-border or at border Tools implemented to predict, detect and manage exotic pest and disease incursions with potential negative impacts on primary sector production systems. |
