What this portfolio aims to do

Investments in this area aim to support New Zealand’s efforts to increase export revenue.

This is achieved by developing new food products and associated services that command premiums in global markets.

Who can apply for this funding?

Research organisations, including universities, crown research institutes and private organisations doing research for the wider benefit of New Zealand.

Target outcomes and themes

INF1 - higher premium foods
Increasing the international competitiveness of food products and processes to achieve premiums above commodity prices.
1.1 Higher premium food products
Growth and diversification of food exports into new market-led and valued food niches in response to consumer drivers, including beverages, whole foods, ingredients, processed foods, finished foods and supplements.
1.2 Cooperative development with Māori
Develop premium-earning, market-led food products and processes with Māori owned businesses.
