Research carried out in this area aims to support New Zealand’s efforts to foster international cooperation in Antarctica, and further understand the unique ecological processes that take place on the continent.

The Foundation and Antarctica New Zealand are investing in this portfolio using a one stage contestable process. This process is for those seeking science funding and logistics support, logistics support only, or science funding only.

 

What stage is the investment process at?

  • We are currently assessing the proposal applications.

    Applicants will be notified of the results on 15 February 2010.

    A list of the successful proposals will be published on the website a week later.

    The Foundation will work with you to contract the successful proposal.

    If a contract has been agreed to, funding will commence from 01 Oct 2010.

Current funding available

In 2009/10 we are seeking to invest $1.36 million in research that aligns with the following target outcome:

  • GLO1: Characteristics, causes and consequences of global change and variability.

And $1.09 million in research that aligns with the following target outcome:

  • ECO1: Enhance and support the resilience, functioning and rehabilitation of land, freshwater and marine ecosystems.

The value and duration of the research investment we seek to make:

  • Requests a minimum of $250,000 annually (GST inclusive)
  • Contributes towards one Intermediate Outcome.
 Antarctica New Zealand Logistics support  2 years with 2 year extension upon review
  • Addresses New Zealand’s Antarctic and Southern Ocean draft science strategy.
  • Requires logistics within the capabilities of Antarctica New Zealand support
