Download the investment signal (the first part of the Request for Proposals) and check your research area matches what we are planning to invest in. Some years we only invest in some of a portfolio’s target outcomes (or themes, if applicable).
Go back to the QuickSearch page to find research funding in your area or, if you have a research office, talk to them.
Download the application guidelines (the second part of the Request for Proposals) and familiarise yourself with the process and the information that will be required.
Talk to your research office to start planning your proposal or contact your Foundation? business manager.
Log onto MyFRST? and create your proposal (if you have a research office, they may do this for you). Make sure you log in and create your proposal at least two weeks before it is due.
What if I don't have a log on?
Contact investments@frst.govt.nz.
Read the assessment criteria closely in the application guidelines and check that your proposal answers all the key questions. Revise your proposal, if necessary.
Check out the advisory group members who will be assessing your proposal to make sure there are no conflicts of interest or confidentiality issues.
Submit your proposal (if you have a research office, they may do this for you).
If your proposal is successful, we will develop a research contract with you.
What if my proposal was not successful?
Unfortunately, you will have to wait until the next investment round to apply for funding. Talk to your Foundation business manager about the feedback on your proposal to help you improve your application next time. Limited funds mean that we are unable to invest in all the high quality research proposals we receive.
