This portfolio aims to support research that contributes to improved social outcomes and achieving or sustaining an inclusive society in New Zealand.

We are investing in this portfolio using a one-stage contestable process.

What stage is the investment process at?

  • Your proposal is due in myFRST by 12 pm midday, 10 November 2008.

Current funding available

In 2008/9 we are seeking to invest $1.5 million in research that aligns with the following target outcomes:

  • children and young people participating and succeeding
  • improving participation in employment
  • positive ageing.

For the themes that are related to these target outcomes, refer to the investment signal under Related Downloads (see top right of page).

We are seeking to invest in short to medium-term research projects as described in the following table.

The size and length of the research investment we seek to make:

  • Requests up to a value of $350,000 annually (GST inclusive)
  • Aims to achieve a single objective
  • Contributes towards a single intermediate outcome
Medium-term programme Up to 6 years, 8 years in exceptional circumstances
  • Requests up to a value of $800,000 annually (GST inclusive)
  • Has multiple research objectives
  • May contributes to one or more intermediate outcomes

Māori research and innovation

All our portfolios are assessed using a number of balance factors. A successful concept or proposal may only need to score well against some of these balance factors.
